What It Means to Feel Safe Again
A reflection on safety, trust, and coming home to yourself

Feeling safe again didn’t happen all at once.
It didn’t arrive as a moment or a milestone.
It came quietly —
in my body,
in my breath,
and in my ability to say no without guilt.
For a long time, safety felt like something outside of me.
Something dependent on circumstances.
On people.
On outcomes.
Something fragile.
Healing showed me otherwise.
Feeling safe again wasn’t about controlling my environment.
It was about learning how to listen to myself.
It was noticing when my body tensed — and honoring that signal.
It was trusting the pause.
It was choosing rest instead of pushing.
It was allowing calm without waiting for something to go wrong.
At first, peace felt unfamiliar.
Almost uncomfortable.
My nervous system had learned survival so well that stillness felt strange.
But slowly, safety began to settle in.
Not as perfection.
Not as certainty.
But as presence.
Feeling safe again meant trusting my intuition — without questioning it.
Letting my yes be clean.
Letting my no be complete.
No longer explaining myself just to be understood.
Safety began to feel like coming home.
Home to my body.
Home to my truth.
Home to the quiet knowing that I am allowed to move at my own pace.
Healing didn’t remove all fear.
But it gave me something stronger.
It gave me the ability to return to myself — again and again — and know that I am listening.
Healing didn’t make life predictable.
It made me feel grounded within it.
Feeling safe again wasn’t about the world changing.
It was about learning how to stay connected to myself within it.
Take what resonates. Leave the rest.
