Outgrowing the Version of Me That Stayed Too Long

A reflection on growth and identity

There was a version of me that stayed longer than she should have.

She gave more chances.

She waited.

She hoped things would change.

And I don’t judge her.

She did what she knew at the time.

But I’m not her anymore.

Healing showed me that growth doesn’t always look like adding something new.

Sometimes it looks like recognizing…

you’ve outgrown what you once tolerated.

And that realization changes everything.

I don’t stay where I feel misaligned anymore.

Not out of anger…

but out of awareness.

And I’ve also learned that sometimes leaving takes time.

Sometimes you have to plan your exit, and that’s okay.

If you are in a season of preparing to get out of something that no longer feels aligned, please know this: planning does not mean you are weak. It means you are gathering the strength, clarity, and support you need to move differently.

There was a time when I didn’t know that.

I didn’t know that leaving could require preparation.

I didn’t know that having a plan could help me actually get out.

But now I do.

And when that door closes, I don’t look back the same way anymore.

I trust that it closed for a reason.

A reason for me to begin again.

A reason for me to start new.

A reason for me to see what is ahead with open arms, an open heart, and an open mind.

Take what resonates.

Leave the rest.
